John
John entered business 25 years ago at the tender age of 23 having come from a long line of family business. On his father’s side the Stewarts were in the Meat Industry for over 150 years in the Glasgow area.
On his mother’s side of the family, his grandfather, W S Unkles who originated from Tarbert on Loch Fyne, ran “W S Unkles Fish Merchants Ltd” in the old Glasgow Fish Market from before the First World War, providing the freshest fish to restaurants, hotels, fish shops and supplying his own fish mongers scattered around Glasgow.
Naturally a career in business beckoned for John and after a brief spell in the meat trade his path led him to Oban and his first Restaurant was opened in 1995. Five years later the first fish and chip shop was acquired before a second in 2004, whereupon The George Street Fish and Chip Shop was born.
A few years after opening The George street Fish and Chip shop John eventually purchased the shop next door and created The George Street Fish Restaurant. This has been a great success serving a wide verity of local fish dishes to tourists and locals alike.
